MyShelter Foundation with students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology takes old plastic bottles, fills them with water and a capful of bleach – to prevent the build-up of algae – and embeds them in a piece of corrugated metal. This device is then inserted into a carefully-cut hole in the roof and sealed to prevent leaking during heavy rainfall. The bright Philippines sun is refracted through the water and penetrates the room below, illuminating it with the equivalent of a 50 watt bulb.
You simply fill up the tube with water to the appropriate line, insert the divider, and freeze. When you’re ready for your rocks, you just hit the flexible bottom on a hard surface to dislodge the cubes.

The Universal Orchestra Experiment, built by Google Creative Lab, can be played anywhere in the world at anytime. The experiment, which will be in London’s Science Museum, is a remarkable execution that uses a web browser to convey the physical and analog interfaces of eight unique instruments. The instruments can be played in real-time, collaboratively by multiple visitors long after the museum has shut its doors.
